In order to explore the cultivation of top medical innovative talents, the "Innovative Medicine Experimental Class" was launched by the Faculty of Medicine of Nanchang University in September 2020.

With the goal of strengthening talent training, ideological and political education, and daily management of the students in this experimental class, the university established the "Huankui Academy" in honor of Mr. He Huankui, the founder of Jiangxi Public Medical School (the predecessor of Jiangxi Medical College) in November 2020.

The motto of Huankui Academy is "Moral and medical excellence, integrity and innovation ", advocating for students' independent learning, self-education, self-management, and self-cultivation, as well as for them to have strong fundamental knowledge, professional skills, innovative thinking, and inquisitive spirits, in addition to political identity, national consciousness, social responsibility, and cultural confidence.

Adhering to the guideline of "thickening foundation, broadening caliber, emphasizing practice, improving quality", by way of strengthening the integration of medical humanities, science and engineering, enhancing collaborations, combining teaching and research, amalgamating professional and general education, and bridging undergraduate and graduate studies, the Innovative Medicine Experimental Class of Huankui Academy seeks to develop future-focused and inter-disciplinary minds with scientific spirits, methods, knowledge and skills as well as humanistic qualities who can take on the duty of creating a "healthy China" and be capable of handling public health emergencies.

The Innovative Medicine Experimental Class of Huankui Academy implements "three systems (credit system, tutor system, college system)" and "three special training models (small class, individualization, internationalization)"; adopts diversified, open and exploratory professional education systems such as "clinical medicine core curriculum + interdisciplinary courses, investigative study (scientific research training)+ practical training". The academy fully utilizes new teaching paradigms such as small-group seminars, classic literature study and flipped classroom to encourage students' independent and lifelong learning capacity. The research and practice platform of "classroom learning + key labs and seminar groups" is set up to achieve full coverage of research training during undergraduate studies and further reinforce students' research aptitude and creative thinking.

From 2020, Huankui Academy selects 50 outstanding freshmen across the university each year to join the Innovative Medicine Experimental Class.
