Publisher:HKA Pubdate:2025-02-18

From February 5 to 11, seven students from Huankui College, led by the Medical Department, embarked on an academic exchange program at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Centered on "Immunology and Oncology," the one-week visit included thematic lectures, institutional tours, and a closing presentation, aiming to broaden students’ global perspectives and enhance their research capabilities.

Academic Courses: Uncovering New Frontiers in Cancer Immunology

During the program, students attended intensive English-taught courses by senior professors from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Covering cutting-edge topics such as cancer pathogenesis, diagnosis, genetics, microbiology, and immune regulation, the curriculum focused on genetic characteristics and molecular mechanisms of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and other tumors. It also detailed clinical applications of gene detection technologies like FISH and NGS, as well as emerging immunotherapies including CAR-T cell therapy and antibody drugs. Through quizzes, case studies, and problem-based learning, students deepened their understanding of tumor immunology and laid a foundation for future research innovation.

Institutional Visit: Insights from National Cancer Centre Singapore

Students visited the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), the country’s largest comprehensive cancer center renowned for its pioneering research and advanced medical technologies. Senior physicians and researchers shared their research journeys, valuable experiences, and strategies for diagnosing and treating complex cases. This firsthand interaction allowed students to grasp the latest advancements in cancer treatment and appreciate the importance of humanistic care in medical services.

Closing Presentation: Showcasing Academic Achievements

In the final session, students delivered English presentations on their learning outcomes in tumor immunotherapy, gene detection technologies, and other areas. The presentations, which involved topic selection, data collection, analysis, and demonstration, showcased their academic rigor and teamwork. They responded confidently to professors’ questions, earning high praise.

Cultural Exploration: Experiencing Singapore’s Diversity

Beyond academics, students explored Singapore’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage, visiting attractions such as Gardens by the Bay, Clarke Quay, Chinatown, and Sultan Mosque. These experiences exposed them to a multicultural environment, further broadening their global outlook.

This one-week exchange program offered students a blend of academic learning and cultural immersion. By engaging with top-tier educators, exploring advanced medical facilities, and experiencing cross-cultural interactions, the students gained valuable insights to support their future careers as competent and innovative medical professionals.
