(Reporter: Qian Murong) On October 24, Professor Zhu Xingen, Vice President (in charge of administrative work) of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, delivered a special lecture titled "Be a Physician with Feelings and Warmth" at the Huankui Lecture Hall. He interpreted the profound connotation of an excellent physician for Huankui students, pointing out the direction, boosting confidence and accumulating strength for the students who cherish the dream of pursuing a medical career.

Professor Zhu Xingen expounded on the essential qualities of a good physician from five aspects: "dedication to work", "noble medical ethics", "compassion and sense of responsibility", "excellent medical skills and optimistic attitude towards life", and "awareness of teamwork". He emphasized that clinical medicine is a journey of lifelong learning, and only with passion and diligence can one shine in the medical field. Taking his own medical practice as an example, Professor Zhu pointed out that "excellent physicians are shaped by patients" and put forward the "Three More" suggestions: Observe more — keenly catch the clues of changes in the patient's condition; Communicate more — conduct effective communication to reduce the psychological burden of patients and their families; Record more — keep detailed records to reflect the rigor and meticulousness of medicine. These "Three More" suggestions are not only a tempering of personal abilities, but also a manifestation of being responsible for patients and respecting medicine. Professor Zhu Xingen emphasized the importance of teamwork, advising Huankui students that "mutual support leads to continuous success; mutual undermining leads to collective failure", and reminding them that unity and cooperation are the key to success in medical work.

Professor Zhu Xingen introduced to the students the century-old glorious history and vigorous development of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. He encouraged the students to accumulate experience steadily and make steady progress on the road of exploring medicine. He also welcomed the students to actively join the neurosurgery research team led by him, so as to cultivate innovative scientific research thinking and produce high-quality scientific research results.

Ye Yuman, Grade 2022: I was deeply inspired after attending Professor Zhu's lecture. With decades of professional experience, Professor Zhu shared some impressive successful cases, which allowed us to witness the miracles of medicine and the exquisiteness of surgical operations. At the same time, he also frankly talked about some imperfect cases, which made me realize that even the most excellent physicians will encounter failures. The lecture is not only the imparting of medical knowledge, but also the sharing of life wisdom. It made me understand that in addition to excellent medical skills, a physician also needs the courage to face failures, an attitude of continuous learning, empathy and respect for life. This lecture has deepened my understanding of medicine and filled me with expectations for my future career.

Fan Jinze, Grade 2023: I was deeply touched by Professor Zhu's lecture this time. Professor Zhu not only introduced to us the qualities that a physician should possess, but also gave examples to explain how to grow into a "humanistic and caring" outstanding physician. Since we have chosen the path of being a physician, we must develop the habit of lifelong learning and love this post with all our hearts. In addition, the "Observe more, Listen more, Record more" mentioned by Professor Zhu has also given me great inspiration and benefited me a lot.
