To help the new students of Huankui Academy smoothly adapt to their new roles and integrate into academy life, the academy designed and organized a series of orientation activities in September. From the ice-breaking and rule-setting first gathering, to the medical ethics enlightenment focusing on morality and proper conduct; from the immersive observation of National Scholarship defense sessions to learn from role models, to the spiritual baptism of walking through the university history museum. This month-long freshman orientation provided comprehensive guidance and support for the students to embark on a new chapter of their university life.

Breaking the Ice & Establishing Rules to Lay a Solid Foundation

On September 14, the freshmen of the experimental class gathered together for the first time in Classroom 240 of the academy. Under the organization of the counselor, the students quickly narrowed the distance and broke the initial unfamiliarity through self-introductions and dormitory talent shows. Afterwards, the counselor introduced the academy’s founding background, educational philosophy, distinctive features and achievements in talent training, and clearly interpreted the rules and regulations of the university and the academy. She emphasized the specific requirements regarding academic assessment, leave application and cancellation, dormitory management, and merit selection, enabling the new students to gain a deeper understanding of the norms for university study and life.

Upholding Rules, Cultivating Virtue & Shaping Conduct for a New Journey

On September 24, to guide the freshmen to develop a rigorous academic attitude and noble professional ethics, the academy carried out an education session on research norms and medical ethics. Vice Dean Liu Qiong introduced the basic research process to the freshmen and emphasized the principles of research integrity, drawing a clear line for the students’ academic exploration. Subsequently, Dr. Zhou Tian elaborated on the academy’s tutorial system and expounded the connotation of medical ethics in depth, helping the freshmen understand the heavy responsibility of life entrusted by their future profession. Through this activity, the students began the psychological transition from being students to becoming medical practitioners, and initially established a strong sense of professional responsibility and mission, fastening the crucial "first button" for growing into medical talents with both integrity and ability.

Observing Defense Sessions to Learn from Excellence & Strive for Progress

On September 27, the counselor organized all freshmen to observe the university’s National Scholarship defense sessions on site, providing them with a direct opportunity to learn from outstanding role models and stimulate their internal motivation. Watching the seniors and sisters showcase their excellent academic performance, rich research experience, outstanding comprehensive qualities and positive spirits on site, the freshmen deeply realized the vastness of the university platform and the infinite possibilities for growth. This immersive role-model education not only enabled the freshmen to form a more concrete and vivid understanding of "excellence", but also inspired them to learn from those better than themselves, plan their university career as early as possible, and make unremitting efforts to achieve their personal goals.

Exploring the University History Corridor to Perceive the Inheritance of Spirit

Loving and honoring the university starts from the freshman year. On September 27, the students walked into the university history museum with reverence. From yellowed old photos to precious physical archives, the magnificent journey of the university’s development unfolded before their eyes. The students deeply felt the spiritual connotation of "Seeking Truth through Exploration, Cultivating Virtue to Benefit Others". The rigorous academic demeanor of teachers and scholars of all generations, together with the sincere enthusiasm of students to serve the country, have jointly forged the profound cultural heritage of the university. This profound history records the glorious journey of Nanchang University and also exerts a profound influence on the growth of current students. The freshmen not only enhanced their sense of belonging to the university, but also made up their minds to continue to strive and create new glories for Nanchang University.

The series of freshman activities in September came to a successful conclusion, drawing a perfect end to the orientation for the 2025 freshmen. From the shyness of the first meeting to the current harmony, from the vague understanding of medicine to the initial comprehension of mission, the rich activities have sown the seeds of benevolence, medical skills, integrity and innovation in the students’ hearts.
