The winter solstice has not yet arrived, but the warmth is already strong. On December 17, Huankui Academy’s "Warm Winter, Love in Huankui" activity of teachers and students making dumplings was held warmly. Pan Bingxing, member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee and Vice President, and He Haixiang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangxi Medical College, sat together with Liao Yuanxin, Ye Yanqin, Lei Enjun, Zhang Yan, Ke Huahong, Yang Lingling, teacher representatives of the college's "Friends of Nanxin", as well as all the teachers and the 2025 students to welcome the traditional festival.

Cultural Origins: Passing Down a Thousand Years of Tradition at Your Fingertips

    The two students injected cultural heritage into the event with vivid narration. One person started from the astronomical calendar and told how the winter solstice, as one of the twenty-four solar terms, was determined by the ancients as early as the Spring and Autumn Period. It is the day with the shortest day and the longest night, but it also contains the transformational philosophy of "winter solstice, when the sun comes, spring comes again". Another classmate focused on the "past and present life" of a dumpling, from the benevolence of the Eastern Han Dynasty medical sage Zhang Zhongjing's "Quhan Jiao Er Soup" to the elegant nickname of "Crescent-shaped Wontons" in the Tang and Song Dynasties, to the folk proverb of the Ming and Qing Dynasties "If you don't carry the dumpling bowl during the winter solstice, your ears will freeze off and no one will care." The small dumplings carry the warmth of fireworks and life wisdom for thousands of years.

Skillful integration: collaboration brings creativity and warmth

    Teachers and students sat around, divided work and collaborated, and laughed constantly. Traditional crescent moon dumplings and plump Yuanbao dumplings each have their own characteristics, and creative works such as "flower dumplings" and "little rabbit dumplings" are also on display. In the "Most Creative Dumplings" competition, representatives from each group presented masterpieces such as "Plum Blossom Dumplings" and "Koi Carp Dumplings" and elaborated on the creative concepts - some used plum blossoms to symbolize resilience, and some used koi carps to convey auspiciousness. They kneaded whimsical ideas into every dough, and kneaded tacit understanding and warmth into every fold.

Fei Hua Chuan Ling: Poetry to warm up dumplings

    The "Winter Solstice Flying Flowers Order" event pushed the event to a climax. The first three rounds were based on "Winter", "Nian" and "Horse" respectively. In each round, four students had to recite ancient poems containing designated words within a 10-second countdown. From the clarity of "Seeing the distant mountains in the clear winter", to the expectation of "let's talk about a good harvest together", to the soaring of "the spring breeze is proud of the horseshoes", the scene was filled with poetry and continuous applause. The winners of the three rounds advance to the finals, and the final showdown begins with the "book" as the order. In the end, Wu Yating won the championship and won a cultural and creative souvenir with the sentiment that "the book is as affectionate as an old friend, and the morning and dusk are filled with sorrow and joy every blind date".

    "Warm winter, love in Huankui" teachers and students' inclusive dumpling-making activity took the winter solstice as an opportunity to deepen the emotional connection between teachers and students. The event not only inherits traditional cultural customs, but also cultivates team spirit through collaboration, enhances humanistic qualities through interaction, and embodies care and responsibility in details. Practical education based on traditional festivals is the best demonstration of "the essence of education is companionship and common growth", adding a warm and bright cultural background to the winter campus.
