From July 7 to 11, Huankui College organized an 8-member "Exploring Development Footsteps, Listening to the Times’ Voice" technological innovation practice team, consisting of outstanding research-oriented students, to visit Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The tour aimed to broaden students’ horizons, enhance their professional literacy, innovation capabilities, and comprehensive quality, and promote inter-institutional cultural exchange and cooperation.  

Learning Through Practice: Technology Leads the Future

On the afternoon of July 7, the team visited the teaching laboratory of SUSTech’s School of Medicine, experiencing "decoding brain waves + VR roller coaster through the human body". Integrating advanced technologies such as VR, 3D, MR, and network technology, the VR laboratory allowed students to explore the mysteries of the brain through highly immersive interactive virtual experiments, observing the continuous spontaneous electrical activities of the cerebral cortex.  

From July 8 to the morning of July 9, the team was divided into four groups to participate in research work at Professor Hong Xin’s, Tian Ruilin’s, Zhang Baotong/Xia Siyuan’s, and Wang Yijin’s research groups. Guided patiently by teachers, students gained hands-on experience in experiments such as single-cell library construction, gene editing, genotype identification, and basic anatomy. They reviewed the basic ideas of medical experiments, felt the charm of medical research intuitively, and admired the rigorous and pioneering spirit of senior researchers in pursuing excellence in the medical field.  

Exchange and Mutual Learning: Cooperation Creates the Future  

On July 10, the team visited the SUSTech campus and Zhicheng College. They praised the tech-driven smart campus layout and the beautiful, open academic environment of SUSTech – a young and dynamic university surrounded by nine hills and a lake. The team experienced the canteens, dormitories, and student activity rooms to understand SUSTech students’ daily life. At Zhicheng College, the display walls of outstanding students’ achievements and tutors’ honors inspired them to strive for excellence.  

As a pioneer in undergraduate college system management and top-notch innovative talent training, SUSTech has many pioneering experiences worth learning. This summer practice marks the beginning of exchange and cooperation between Huankui College and Zhicheng College. In the future, the two colleges will further strengthen mutual learning to jointly promote high-quality development of top-notch talent training.  

Learning from the Past: Reform Forges the Future  

At the end of the tour, the team visited Shenzhen Museum and the "Pearl River Tides" Exhibition Hall to experience Shenzhen’s spirit and urban charm. Through a large number of cultural relics, pictures, historical documents, and video materials, they learned about Shenzhen’s tremendous changes over time, driven by the spirit of "daring to explore, being open and inclusive, pragmatic and law-abiding, and pursuing excellence". Huankui students will draw spiritual motivation from the "New Era Shenzhen Spirit", internalize it into their value pursuit, and strive to create their own brilliant achievements.  

This study tour helped students understand Shenzhen’s development history, experience the hardships of translating research into practice, and deepen their admiration for researchers. It is hoped that Huankui students will strengthen their faith in scientific exploration, carry forward the spirit of innovation, and work together to write a splendid chapter of progress.
