To thoroughly implement the construction requirements of "New Medical Sciences" and actively explore new mechanisms and approaches for cultivating top innovative medical talents, a 4-member delegation from Huankui Academy, led by Dean Zheng Liping and Secretary Zou Lixuan, traveled to Shanghai from October 27 to 28. The delegation visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University (covering PuYuan College of Future Technologies, Zhiyuan College and School of Medicine) and its alumnus enterprise — Shanghai Yinghe Yimai Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., conducting special research on key areas including medicine-engineering cross-disciplinarity, academy-based talent cultivation, medical top talent training and university-enterprise collaborative education, so as to gain valuable experience for the academy’s top-level design of talent training and practical innovation.

Focusing on Medicine-Engineering Cross-Disciplinarity to Jointly Cultivate Interdisciplinary Talents for the Future

Founded in 2021, PuYuan College of Future Technologies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University is among the first batch of 12 Future Technology Colleges announced by the Ministry of Education. The research team focused on investigating its medicine-engineering interdisciplinary "MD + PhD" integrated undergraduate-master-doctoral training program. Secretary Ge Tianshu of PuYuan College introduced that the program has formed a full-chain training mechanism of "curriculum - scientific research - practice", and plans to open up the selection channel for undergraduate graduates to medical colleges and universities nationwide. The two sides reached a preliminary consensus on prioritizing the recommendation of outstanding students to participate in the joint training program and jointly building a collaborative education path for joint training.

At the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Director Shao Li of the Academic Affairs Office elaborated on the training system and innovation programs for top innovative medical talents. The team focused on researching the training mechanism for top students majoring in biomedical sciences, especially the curriculum interoperability and disciplinary integration model between this major and clinical medicine as well as medicine-engineering interdisciplinary programs. The two sides exchanged views on issues such as curriculum design for top basic medical talents, interdisciplinary faculty sharing and joint construction of scientific research platforms, and reached a consensus on promoting the collaborative education of basic medicine and clinical medicine and strengthening the cultivation of scientific research and innovation capabilities.

The last stop of the research team was Shanghai Yinghe Yimai Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. Chairman Wang Shihe, an alumnus of Jiangxi Medical College who graduated in 1996, demonstrated the company’s technological achievements and industrial development vision in the fields of intelligent medical image analysis, virtual simulation teaching and clinical decision support. The two sides held pragmatic discussions on cooperation matters such as co-building a medical artificial intelligence practical education platform and jointly developing courses by universities and enterprises, opening up a feasible path for building a "Medicine + AI" industry-education integrated education ecosystem.

This trip to Shanghai provided multi-dimensional and in-depth insights for Huankui Academy to deepen the reform of talent training. The academy will fully absorb and digest the research results, promote interdisciplinary integration with a more open vision, improve the academy-based talent training model with a more systematic thinking, deepen industry-education collaboration with more innovative measures, continuously optimize the education system, and strive to build an interdisciplinary, practice-oriented and international training system for top innovative medical talents.
