On the afternoon of October 8, 50 freshmen of the 2023 cohort from Huankui College visited Sanli Township, the hometown of Mr. He Huankui, to attend a unique orientation first class combined with labor education. The activity aimed to help students learn about Mr. He’s life of diligent study, dedication to medicine, and service to the motherland, inherit the medical spirit, and temper their character through labor while gaining skills and growth insights.

First Class: Cultivating Morality and Inspiring New Talents

At Fengfu Village Committee, Secretary He Guolong of the Village Party Branch gave a lecture, vividly sharing Mr. He Huankui’s life story, academic achievements, and outstanding contributions to Jiangxi’s medical and health development. He encouraged students to study with enthusiasm, strive to become patriotic, virtuous, and skilled medical masters like Mr. He, and practice his family and country feelings as well as academic spirit through concrete actions.

After the lecture, students visited the He Huankui Memorial Hall. The over-100-year-old medical equipment, books, documents on display, and the documentary about Mr. He deeply touched their hearts. His dedication to educating for the country, perseverance in saving the nation, spirit of overcoming hardships to run schools, and noble character of selfless devotion to medicine are worthy of eternal memory and inheritance. The group photo of students in front of Mr. He’s statue vividly reflects the passing down of the century-old medical spirit.

Labor Education: Enlightening Wisdom and Forging Talents

To implement the requirement of labor education and promote the spirit of labor, students went to the joint labor education base of Huankui College and Fengfu Village. They engaged in field work such as weeding, picking peppers, and harvesting sesame. The on-site labor strengthened their awareness of the value of labor and deepened their understanding of its importance.

By moving the ideological and political class to Mr. He’s hometown and rural fields, the college innovated the orientation education form, allowing freshmen to vividly experience the school’s history and culture in practice and internalize the medical spirit into actions. In the future, Huankui College will continue to develop more down-to-earth and popular activities, strengthen Party building leadership, stay close to young students’ lives, and effectively carry out ideological and political education to inspire youthful vitality.
