(Reporter: Wang Keri) On June 2, Chief Physician Duan Jian from the Department of Neurosurgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, was invited to Huankui Academy and delivered a special lecture titled All About Neurosurgery to the students of Huankui Academy.

Starting with the concept of "brain-computer interface" featured in film and television works, Professor Duan Jian introduced the development of neuroscience and popularized cutting-edge knowledge in this field for the students. Through videos, Chief Physician Duan illustrated the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative preparations required for neurosurgical operations, vividly demonstrating the close collaboration and coordination among the medical team, including the chief surgeon, anesthesiologists and circulating nurses, during the surgical process. Meanwhile, taking intracranial hematoma as an example, he elaborated on the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment methods, with a focus on the merits of minimally invasive and precision surgical techniques. He also showcased the therapeutic effects by presenting the recovery outcomes of specific clinical cases.

Centering on the development of cutting-edge treatment technologies for neurosurgical diseases, Chief Physician Duan's lecture traced the evolution of neurosurgical treatments from traditional and microsurgeries to minimally invasive and precision surgeries. Drawing on his own growth experience and the story of how the Department of Neurosurgery of his hospital achieved leapfrog development, he encouraged the students to effectively integrate theoretical knowledge with clinical practice on the arduous journey of studying medicine. He advised them to attach importance to reverse thinking about basic clinical knowledge while engaging in clinical internships and training, so as to accelerate their own growth. He also inspired the students of Huankui Academy to forge ahead courageously in their future study and life, strive to catch up and shine brightly in the tide of the times.

Duan Jian is Chief Physician of the Department of Neurosurgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. He holds multiple academic positions, including Chairman of the Craniocerebral Trauma Professional Committee of Jiangxi Rehabilitation Medical Association, Chairman of the Youth Group of the Neurosurgery Branch of Jiangxi Integrative Medical Association, Standing Committee Member of the Neurosurgical Anatomy Branch of the Chinese Society of Anatomy and Jiangxi Rehabilitation Medical Association, and Young Member of the Expert Committee of the Intracerebral Hemorrhage Surgery Diagnosis and Treatment Capacity Improvement Project of the National Health Commission. He is also a certified lecturer of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He took the lead in carrying out neuroendoscopic minimally invasive treatment for hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage in Jiangxi Province, a technology that won the Hospital New Technology Award in 2018. He also claimed the First Prize in the National Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage Case Competition and the Runner-up in the National Neuroendoscopic Video Competition. As the leader of the Young Civilization Unit, he helped the Department of Neurosurgery win the honorary titles of Municipal and Provincial Young Civilization Units under the guidance of the department's leadership. He has participated in 5 National Natural Science Foundation projects, presided over and participated in more than 10 projects funded by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education, and Health Commission, etc. He has published more than 10 papers in SCI journals and Chinese core journals.
