As the summer sun blazes, it ignites the passion and dreams of Huankui students. This summer vacation, they didn’t let up despite the break from classes – actively joining supervisors’ laboratories, participating in academic competitions, summer camps, and social practice activities to improve, enrich, and refine themselves.  

Here’s how Huankui students pursued self-improvement through independent learning:  

Laboratory Learning  

Taking advantage of the vacation gap, students joined their supervisors in laboratory work to proactively enhance professional skills and research capabilities. For example, some observed and learned Western blot experiments (a key molecular biology technique), received guidance on literature reviews, and kept detailed experimental records. They studied relevant books and materials to lay a solid foundation for future research.  

Competitions & Summer Camps  

Students also participated in academic competitions and summer camps in Xiamen, Kunming, Beijing, and other cities, gaining honors, experience, and growth.  

- Achievements: In the 8th National College Student Life Science Competition, they won 3 national first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 3 third prizes. In the 9th National Competition for Undergraduate Innovation Research and Experimental Design in Basic Medical Sciences, they secured 1 provincial first prize, 2 second prizes, and 1 third prize.  

- Academic Output: With supervisors’ guidance, students co-published 16 high-quality academic papers in the first half of 2023.  

Social Practice  

To implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and enhance the effectiveness of social practice, the college organized multiple teams. Students participated with enthusiasm, interpreting the power of practice through actions:  

- Investigated ecological civilization and rural revitalization in Shangrao, visiting villagers and working in fields.  

- Conducted summer research at Southern University of Science and Technology, visiting laboratories.  

- Launched "Following Ancestors’ Footsteps, Inheriting Medical Spirit" activities, tutoring local primary school students and visiting the elderly.  

- Participated in red research in Jinggangshan, experiencing activities like straw sandal weaving and making Red Army meals.  

- The "Following Ancestors’ Footsteps" program was reported by major media including People’s Daily, Health News, and China Youth Network.  

More exciting experiences await in August: students will attend summer exchange programs at the University of Hong Kong and conduct social practice in Weifang, Shandong.  

Diligent efforts in summer pave the way for a fruitful future. It is hoped that Huankui students will continue to pursue excellence, challenge themselves, and accumulate strength to become top-notch innovative talents in the new era!
