(Reporters: Zhang Yiqing & Yu Xiaochun) To explore the genetic factors behind human health and longevity and reveal the mysteries of life, on June 14, Professor Tian Xiaoli from the Institute of Human Aging, School of Life Sciences of our university delivered a special lecture titled Genetic Mechanisms of Healthy Longevity to the students of Huankui Academy.

Based on the results of the 6th and 7th National Population Censuses, Professor Tian Xiaoli analyzed the aging crisis in China. He pointed out that the main causes of death among centenarians in China are cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and that genes and environment are the key codes to human health and lifespan.

Professor Tian shared the decades-long research achievements of his scientific team in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and other fields, especially the China Longevity Cohort Study. The study has completed large-scale whole-genome sequencing of centenarians and successfully identified gene loci closely associated with coronary heart disease and healthy longevity, along with their functions. Meanwhile, he mentioned that daily habits are also crucial for healthy longevity. Inspired deeply, the students resolved to maintain a balanced diet, cultivate an optimistic mindset, and establish a sound concept of health.

This lecture helped Huankui Academy students understand the current situation of aging in China and how to carry out scientific research design starting from common diseases. It demonstrated the important role of scientific research in addressing the challenges of aging, broadened the students' scientific horizons, and provided significant guidance for their future academic research or career development.
