To further promote innovative development in medical education and meet the needs for cultivating talents under the “Healthy China” strategy, Nanchang University established the Huankui Academy in December 2020. Named after Mr. He Huankui—the founder of the Jiangxi Public Medical College, the predecessor of the university’s medical program—Huankui Academy serves as a hub for cultivating top-tier innovative medical talents and offers the Clinical Excellence and Innovation Experimental Class.

In 2025, in accordance with the Jiangxi Medical College’s innovative reform plan, the Education and Training Program for Excellent Doctors (initiated in 2012) will be integrated into the Huankui Academy for centralized administration. Consequently, the Excellent Doctors Class in Clinical Medicine and the Clinical Excellence and Innovation Experimental Class will be merged and upgraded into the Excellent and Innovative Experimental Class in Clinical Medicine. Furthermore, in 2026, to cultivate outstanding medical research talents, the Huankui Academy will establish the Innovation Experimental Class of Basic Medicine.

These experimental classes adopt a Lead Professor System, supported by an outstanding teaching team that bridges basic and clinical medicine. The Excellent and Innovative Experimental Class in Clinical Medicine uses an organ‑system integrated curriculum as its core framework to build students’ theoretical and practical capabilities. Meanwhile, the Innovation Experimental Class of Basic Medicine centers on continuous medical research training and intensive multidisciplinary integration of medicine, science, and engineering to foster research and innovation skills.

Huankui Academy implements a unique educational model characterized by the “Three Systems” for cultivation (credit system, mentorship system, and honors college system), the “Three Orientations” for elite management (small‑class teaching, personalized learning, and internationalization), and the “Three Integrations” for collaborative education (integrating medicine with humanities/science/engineering; integrating teaching with research; and integrating professional education with holistic education). This model places a strong emphasis on cultivating students’ research aptitude and enhancing their overall competence.

Moving forward, Huankui Academy will continue to uphold its founding spirit: “Ethical Integrity, Medical Excellence, Adherence to Fundamentals, and Pursuit of Innovation.” It has established a multi‑dimensional talent cultivation philosophy with the ultimate goal of “Developing Master Physicians.” The implementation pathway focuses on “strengthening body and mind, solidifying academic foundations, refining professional skills, emphasizing innovation, and fostering social responsibility.”
